‘Lucid Dream’ Go Soo conveyed his impression from working alongside with Park Yuchun.
Actor Go Soo did an interview for movie ‘Lucid Dream’ and told a backstory about having worked alongside with Park Yuchun, to Herald POP at one of Palpan-dong’s cafe in Seoul on the 16th.
On this day Go Soo said about working alongside with Park Yuchun, “I really like the character This Man. As you know when watching the movie, he is really attractive. I liked acting and working alongside with him,” and, “Even when I looked at the script, I thought the character ‘This Man is good. It is charming how he can come and go freely from in people’s dreams”.
Following, about attention being on the part whether or not the opening was postponed because of the controversy over Park Yuchun’s private life, Go Soo explained it’s not because of Park Yuchun: “In any case seeing that ‘Lucid Dream’ has a lot of scenes being in dreams, there are so many CG effects needed. To raise its completion in post-production, it came down to the movie’s opening being a little behind. The CG effects are good in term of immersion. It seems the scene where the building was collapsing and expressions were done well”.

(Yonhap Interview) 'Lucid Dream' Go Soo about Park Yoochun, "It was fun to work with him"

(Yonhap Interview) Actor says film 'Lucid Dream' is all about paternal love

By Shim Sun-ah
SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Yonhap) -- The new Korean film "Lucid Dream" might be reminiscent of the 2010 Hollywood sci-fi movie "Inception" for dealing with dreams but is, at its heart, a story of paternal love, its lead actor Go Soo said Thursday.
"I think this film is easier than 'Inception' and has quite a lot of things to see given its relatively low budget and other conditions," the actor said during an interview at a Seoul cafe with members of the local press, including Yonhap News Agency.
The upcoming film tells the story of a broadcasting reporter named Dae-ho who slips into his own dreams with help from a psychiatrist to find clues to track down the kidnapper of his little boy taken three years ago. It is the debut film of rookie writer-director Kim Joon-sung.
For those unfamiliar with the meaning of the title, "lucid dreaming" is an elusive state in which you consciously know you are dreaming. Unlike a regular dream where there is no control over what you experience, a lucid dream offers you the possibility to control your surroundings.
Whatever the box office result might be, the film would contribute to increasing diversity in the local film industry with its fresh and unique subject matter, the actor said.
But at its heart, "Lucid Dream" is more about a father even risking his life to find his long-lost son, he emphasized.
"This is what the director and I thought was the most important from the beginning. I think this is a story that everyone can empathize with because we're all somebody's child and can become parents someday."

Being a father of two in real life, Go said he was able to easily engross himself in the role.

While the filmmaker was in charge of creating spectacles for the film, Go said his goal was keeping Dae-ho's longing for his lost child intact till the end.
Go said Dae-ho is a tenacious and righteous man with his own philosophy as a reporter specializing in unearthing corruption involving conglomerates. He is also a generous single father who tries to spend as much time as possible with his son, said the actor.

"I thought such tenacity was the most important element of Dae-ho's personality because he never gives up hope of finding his abducted son," he said.
Singer-actor Park Yu-chun from the popular K-pop boy band JYJ plays an unnamed mysterious man in a black suit who confuses Dae-ho by abruptly appearing in his lucid dreams and later in the real world. Encountered in the real world, the man lets the protagonist know of "shared dreaming."

Park's "This Man" is an important character who holds the key to Dae-ho's destiny, Go said.

"It is a very attractive character that freely moves between dreams and the real world. It was fun to work with him and I think he delivered the role in a charming way."

Q. What will you do if a girlfriend came to a party with very thick, sexy makeup?

Lee Tae-sung’s Interview: “Delayed feelings after military service period, Envy close friends Park Yoochun & Park Seo Joon”

The activities of actors Lee Tae-sung is close to –like Park Seo-joon and Park Yuchun who did works together with him– was a good stimulant. He acted with Park Seo-joon in ‘Pots of Gold’, and formed a bond with Park Yuchun through ‘Rooftop Prince’.
“I would see fellow actors’ appearances on TV sometimes when I was in the army and it would catch my attention automatically if I see actors I had done works together with. In the case like (Park) Seo-joon, I envied that there was situation where he went to the army early and came back; and is able to keep up being busy while acting at the height of having healthy energy and image. […] (Park) Yuchunnie is doing his service right now but he showed an image of him intently acting before he left; so there were times that I was envious as a similar actor. I had thoughts about wanting to do a collaboration to meet with them and in a good work again.”

Park Yoochun “The Girl Who Sees Smells” Japan Interview! ‘Laughed too hard during filming that many NGs occurred’

This time, in commemoration of the Blu-ray&DVD release, the interview addressed towards the Japanese fans has arrived. He talked about his co-stars, the secret stories from the shooting and about the “analgesia” acting.
― Your appearance on “The Girl Who Sees Smells” was decided, reading the synopsis and script, what were your impressions/thoughts (on it)?
Yoochun: The people who watch the drama may or may not have felt this but I am shooting by choosing a different method than my works up till now. The first time I read the synopsis and script, I had a dark image for the main character Mugak. Therefore, I was worried if a person like Mugak who carries the pain in his heart, which he experienced in the past can be connected well together with a comedic element. Furthermore, Mugak is set to have lost all his sensations, how do I convey it so it’s understandable, I was considerably troubled and I found myself worried earlier, at the time of the start.
― Please introduce regarding the role you acted, Choi Mugak.
Yoochun: He is a young detective and, originally was a bright young man appropriate of his age. After losing his parents early, he was happily living with his one and only younger sister however, one day, the younger sister was involved in an incident and passed away. Since then Mugak lost his sensations and smile, his personality became blunt but, after meeting Oh Chorim (Shin Sekyung’s role), his sensation and smile is gradually regained. He is such a person.
― Are there any similarities in Choi Mugak and Park Yoochun’s personality etc.?
Yoochun: There is a similar aspect. When I act always, I am of those who influences the role with his own personality or form. Because I think that this way at the time of acting mundane scenes, it is seen with a more natural feel to it. While doing trial and error, I face the shooting. The comical scene in which meeting Chorim and regaining the smile, I couldn’t act if I didn’t push out my own personality to the forefront. I felt like as Mugak, even saying a gag won’t be funny so, I acted by putting out my natural personality.
― This is your first time co-starring with Shin Sekyung, the time when you first heard (that she is your) co-star, what did you think about it? In addition, how was it acting alongside with her in reality?
Yoochun: I met Shin Sekyung for the first time at the script reading. If you see the works she has appeared in till now, they are of a dark and mysterious image. The movie “Hindsight” left an impression and, I think that image of the role was overlapped (T/N: i.e. that dark image of SSK had remained in Yoochun’s head). However, meeting her in reality, (she is) healthy and bright, maybe it is because more than anything she debuted in child roles, she is polite and does not say selfish (things) and, even if it is hard (she has it in her) to endure very patiently. For me, there are many things for which I think I am thankful for (towards her). We worked together smoothly, it was fun and the reaction was good as well right. To say reaction, it is not the reaction of the acting but before the performance or rehearsal, the time of the casual daily life conversations. Her reactions are good that’s why I as well enjoy talking (to her). She is such a woman[/person].
― Others, Namgoong Min and Yoon Jinseo starred as the main cast but other than in the acting of the 4 main cast, were there any episodes?
Yoochun: In any case, shooting was very enjoyable. At the (shooting) location, unrelated to the characters being acted out or the atmosphere of the shooting location, we were considerate of each other. Namgoong Min listened well to (what) I had to say. At the time of the shooting, when I’m listening to various opinions, he from a position of a senior would answer with, “Yoochun, doing it this way is good.” Yoon Jinseo has appeared in many movies up till now and, amongst the movies she has a mysterious and a bit suspicious image. However, in reality she laughs a lot and, you can come in contact with her comfortably. Speaking of episode, just now I mentioned this in the press round-table conference as well, there is many NGs at the shooting location. NG occurs because of laughing too hard. I think of this as an enjoyable thing. Mistaking while saying the dialogues or in the case of a NG occurring due to becoming nervous after continuing an all nighter, there is a time when you become a bit sullen, but NGs occurring (due) to laughing hard improves the location’s atmosphere. I believe it is a fortunate thing and that it is really good that I have become able to do this work.

“In the Comical scenes, you can see my forms that have never been seen before.”

― There was a scene in which you do a comedic dialogue with Shin Sekyung as well, the gag with the wig form became a hot topic. Though we have heard a rumor that there was very few NGs, how was the filming?
Yoochun: There were very few NGs. It was a scene in which NG should not occur. Though an actor has to memorise the dialogue of the script and act along smoothly together with the costar, when a NG occurs and then the repeated saying of the dialogue several times,[because of this] there is a case that the first fresh feeling or the impact gets lost. Comical scenes in particular, freshness is important so, we were careful of NGs. I feel fortunate that (we) were able to do it as aimed.
― At the ending of the drama, the NG scenes with Yoon Jinseo aired, are there any episodes from the filming of that scene?
Yoochun: That was across the glass and lighting hits from the rear, it can not be seen from me. In the beginning she as well looked puzzled. When I did the gag moderately during rehearsal but in the actual performance did it intensely, she said, “modify it so that i am able to act.” It was a filming while laughing. If i’m not mistaken, that was the first thing in the morning and, everyone was sleepy and dazed off but thanks to Yoon Jinseo laughing, the nervousness at the location came untied and it seemed to have gone well.
Translator’s Note: NG scene clip, here, the scene referred to starts at 0:33 to 0:41
― It was mentioned in the conversation just now as well but, Mugak does not have any sensation. Because he is Insensible(T/N: Mukankaku 無感覚 in Japanese, and Mukamkak 무감각 in Korean(he is called) “Mugak” ?
Yoochun: Yes, it is like that.
― In the drama, though even when Mugak was hit with a chair by a criminal there was not even one change in complexion, in acting of not feeling pain, were there any hard times?
Yoochun: It was very hard to do. Even if i want to express it with natural acting, only this I have never experienced so, acting as well, it somewhat wouldn’t come out nicely and it felt unnatural as well. Even at the time when filming for the hand to hand fighting scene in the video for the title use, I was told “as much as possible (do it) expressionless.” However, that doesn’t go the way you think. I struggled considerably. I am glad to have been able to overcome it well. Entering in the latter half, such scenes were less so, I thought I should show it in the times of having to show. I was able to express it to some degree no?
― Through “The Girl Who Sees Smells”, are there any parts in which actor Park Yoochun has matured? Or, are there any parts where you felt it was worth doing?
Yoochun: More than anything through this work, I believe the sense of distance of the acting roles has narrowed and, in the comical acting or daily life scenes, i made an earnest effort so it appears natural as much as possible. Additionally, I do not know the final judgement but it seems like it is accepted by the audiences. I am extremely satisfied with that point.
― Please give your message and the drama’s highlight towards the Japanese fans.
Yoochun: Honestly speaking, in the case of me acting a character in a drama, thinking about the flow from the beginning to the end, I act while giving a connection but in “The Girl Who Sees Smells,” I am acting considerably with variations, completely like an omnibus, like changing the switch. Wouldn’t it be enjoyable if you try and take note of that? In the comical scenes in particular, you can see my never before seen forms, please anticipate it.

Park Yoochun mentioned about Pianist 'Yuhki Kuramoto' in his interview back in 2008

As reported, Japanese Pianist 'Yuhki Kuramoto' is participated in Park Yoochun's 1st mini Album for 'Nostalgic, While Turning Over the Page' song and apparently Yoochun has mentioned about him back in 2008.

Yoochun's Interview in the Shine Photobook~[Music]

-Which Western artistes do you like?

YC: Seriously, I like many artistes. Recently and what I've listened to today is, Pianist Bill Evans, I knew him because Brad Mehldau participated in a Bill Evans tribute album (T/N: They are Jazz pianists)

---- You like piano songs?

YC: I really like the piano. Although you can also express your feelings and thoughts through singing and dancing, I feel that the piano's like that too. I like being able to listen while playing out my emotions. Recently, I've been listening a lot to Yolanda Adams. And the soundtrack of [Bridget Jones' Diary]

----- What about Japanese artistes?

YC: Kuramoto Yuuki. I've been listening to a lot of his songs recently. Ever since I heard his BMG on his homepage

------ What about Korean artistes?

YC: Recently, it's Clazziquai. I listen to them a lot since I've their songs on my ipod. The main point about them that I like is that they give off the new age vibe. I especially like the female vocalist voice in [Speechless]. It's so relaxing that I get goosebumps listening to them

INTERVIEW: ENLISTED PARK YOOCHUN LEAVES HIS BLUE DRAGON AWARDS HAND-PRINTING BEFORE ENLISTMENT

*just another trans[previous trans HERE]*

2014 is a special year for actor Park Yuchun.  Debuting on the big screen with movie <HAEMOO>, being awarded as the best new actor at the blue dragon award, he has become the Chungmuro’s rising star. From the look of Yuchun holding his trophy & thanking people he is thankful for,  audience saw the future of Korea’s movies.

A year have passed, this year, he was also invited to Blue Dragon Award as an award winner. However, Park Yuchun was not able to attend the hand printing event on November 5th because of his enlistment at the end of August. It was such a pity that he was not able to leave his hand printing at such honourable moment. So 10 days before Yuchun enlisted, on the 17th of August, we met up with Yuchun. While doing his hand printing, Yuchun recalled the moment he received the award. He said: “I want to become an actor who deserves this trophy”

Yuchun fully deserves this award with his outstanding performance in in <HAEMOO> ,  where he transform into an innocent crewman. But he said: “I never expect myself to get an award at Blue Dragon Awards. When my name was called, I was really shocked, I don’t know what kind of expression I gave to the camera, I did not prepare my speech too, I think I said something weird too. I really went to the award ceremony just to enjoy the ceremony. Sometimes, artist will also want to see other artists. It is also interesting to see if I missed any fun & interesting things from the movie when I first watched it at the movie theatre. However, the burden on my shoulder became heavier after receiving this award unexpectedly. For this, I was quite not used to.”

Different from Yuchun’s unexpected expression (toward getting the award), Director Sung Bo Shim & Director Bong Joon Ho were cheering & sending their congratulatory messages to Yuchun as if they were the ones receiving the award. Seeing that, we can tell that being the maknae in the filming set, Park Yuchun received a lot of love from them. Yuchun:” Because filming was mostly done at places that are rather isolated, the bond with the actors was really good. When there were some freetime, we would go and drink a little. Directors and the crews of Haemoo was all good people, so I spent a good half year, I feel that I am really fortunate.”

To Park Yuchun, <HAEMOO> was a work that make him feel the taste of acting. “Even after a long day of action filming at the set, too exhausted to even say anything but I could feel the happiness and contentment. For example,  it will be really natural to act like you are really exhausted  when you are at your most haggard state, you can express your feeling more naturally. Acting will always get more and more interesting. Sometimes I feel tired too, but I love acting, I even love the exhaustion while acting.”

His last projects before your enlistment, <LUCID DREAM> has not yet been screened. Although it was a small role but with Sol Kyung Gyu’s “Lets act together” invitation, Park Yuchun agreed to it without any hesitation. “I have learned a lot of things working with Sol Kyung Gyu sunbaenim, in order to make the scene with the best result, he went to Gangwon-do. After he was done with the first scene, I actually got his signature.” Seeing the full preparation that Sol Kyung Gyu shown, Yuchun expressed his thought. “Sol Kyung Gyu  sunbaenim is a charming senior. Sunbaenim said after I’m done with my military service, we shall meet again with a good movie. I guess to work together with sunbaenim in a movie or to meet him in a movie, I will work extra hard. Just the thought of it is making me really excited.”

Receiving a surprising gift from Sol Kyung Gyu, a director chair with “Actor Park Yuchun” engraved on it. It was a precious chair made 20 years ago with a message “Although It was not a good gift, but I really want to give it to you as an gift”. Receiving the message from Sol Kyung Gyu, Park Yuchun was really touched. “I have always admired Sol Kyung Gyu sunbaenim, after meeting him in real, I admire him even more.” I dare to say he is my role model. I rested for sometimes after drama <Three Days>, I start choosing another because of sunbaenim. After watching his movie <My Dictator> I really wanted to act again, this is why I decided to be in <The Girl Who Sees Smells>.

“In the future you can be an actor like Sol Kyung Gyu.”  Yuchun’s eyes sparkled as he said: It will be good if I can be like him.” This is a future dream that Yuchun will fulfil. So, how will Yuchun transform to after two years are making us curious. “Living a life as a public servicer outside of the spotlight, I will have time to look back at myself, I will understand myself more. I feel that I have to lead my own life in order to meet a good work. I hope I will become a more complete person after my discharge”
About the fear of welcoming the 30s. Park Yuchun said:” If I have no work on hand, I will get pocket money from my brother (Park Yuhwan).” He smiled happily. “Although I might make wrong decisions in the past, I didn’t live my life carelessly. So I believe, in my 30s, there will still be people around me. And that will be enough.”

[INTERVIEW] Sports Chosun: ‘Enlisted in the army’ Park Yuchun leaves his Blue Dragon hand-printing beforehand

The year 2014 was special for ‘actor’ Park Yuchun. His [big] screen debut with movie ‘Sea Fog’. And the Blue Dragon Film Awards’ New Actor award. He emerged as Chungmuro’s rising star in one swallow. The audience saw the the future of Korean cinema in the image of Park Yuchun holding his trophy and recalling the names of people he was thankful to with a flushed expression.
One year’s time has passed and we should find the Blue Dragon Film Awards award ceremony this year in the capacity of winners from the previous year right now, but Park Yuchun enlisted at the end of last August and is in the middle of his public service currently. He will not be attending the hand-printing event on November 5 either. Sorry that he’s leaving his moment of glory in a handprint, we met with Park Yuchun in advance on August 17, ten days before he enlisted. Park Yuchun spoke with determination, “I will become an actor who won’t shame the trophy,” looking back at the moment he was awarded when he was doing his hand-printing.
Park Yuchun deserved to be the owner of the trophy, for his fervent performance turning into a naive man in ‘Sea Fog’. However he said, “I didn’t expect it at all when I was at the Blue Dragon Film Awards”. “The moment that my name was called, I was so surprised. I didn’t even know what kind of expression to put on in front of the camera; and hadn’t prepared an acceptance speech too. I think I was scattered, talking strangely. I really was looking around at the award ceremony. It was a period where an entertainer wants to see an entertainer. It was fun to examine what works I missed in the movie theater. But my mind/heart felt uneasy and my shoulders bear a heavy responsibility when receiving the award unexpectedly.”

Unlike the dazed Park Yuchun who didn’t realize he was being awarded, Director Shim Sung-bo and Director Bong Joon-ho cheered as if it had been their own work and congratulated Park Yuchun. It is a scene where we felt Park Yuchun receiving so much love as the youngest of ‘Sea Fog’ filming location. “The actors and staffs would amassed into a group when there were a lot of local shooting. We happened to have drinks at every opportunity. All of ‘Sea Fog’ team, actor, and staff including the two directors are very great people. I spent half a year in happiness. I guess I receive a lot of good fortune.”
‘Sea Fog’ is a work that helped Park Yuchun perceive the new fun of acting. Despite being tired as much as not saying a word about it when filming the action scene inside the engine room, he had felt exhilarating joy and sense of pride. He talked about how he may not have been acting out hardship, so to speak, but there being a lot more natural and living sentiments coming out when he is acting in a state where he is truly exhausted. “It is fun the more I am acting. It is hard too. But I like acting as it’s worth feeling happy about to its difficulty.”
His last work before enlisting is ‘Lucid Dream’ which has yet to open. Although it is a small role, he made an appearance without any particular worries in a conversation with Sol Kyung-gu, “Let’s go together”. There were a lot of things he learned when acting with Sol Kyung-gu. Citing Sol Kyung-gu’s thorough preparedness as an instance at getting an ‘okay’ sign in the first take coming down to Gangwon-do for a single scene, Park Yuchun let out a big exclamation. “Sol Kyung-gu sunbae is a really cool person. I had said ‘let’s fight in a strong work next when I get discharged’, but I want us to just meet in an entertaining movie or a down-to-earth-like movie. I will practice like crazy. My heart is pounding already at the thought of it.”
He also received a surprise gift from Sol Kyung-gu. A director chair with his name ‘Actor Park Yuchun’ carved in. It is a priceless chair made as many as over 20 years ago. Park Yuchun was overwhelmed once more with emotions, conveying the message “I want to give you a gift that isn’t tacky but just right” to Sol Kyung-gu. “Originally I liked Sol Kyung-gu sunbae, but I began to like him more as I got to know him actually. I can dare to say that he is my role model. Because of sunbae that I took a break for a while after drama ‘Three Days’ and had chosen a work again. I was prompted to do acting so much after watching ‘My Dictator’ starring sunbae. Thus I had starred in ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’.”

Told ‘It seems you will be an actor like Sol Kyung-gu later’, Park Yuchun replied, “I certainly hope so,” and had a twinkle in his eyes. It is a dream that could become a reality in the not too distant future. So we are more curious about Park Yuchun in 2 years. “I am doing public service and since I get to live outside of the public’s eye, I will be taking the time to look back at me and try to learn about myself more. I think I should live a worthy life of me and will be able to find a good work. I hope I have become a person who is equipped more when I get discharged (from my military service).”
When asking about the fear of reaching his 30s: “I can receive pocket money from my younger brother(Park Yuhwan) when I am not working or doing well” and laughed ‘haw-haw’ cheekily. “I have made a lot of mistakes but I do not live carelessly. I believe I will be together with someone definitely by my side even in my 30s. That is enough for me.”

[TRANS] Park Yuchun’s Interview with Women’s Weekly (Shukan Josei/週刊女性)

The things that one wants to know, he’s here right now
the time to get in touch with Park Yuchun“with no make-up”—-
“I feel that I have a special fate and luck, but I’m not particularly special. I want to live normally.”
Park Yuchun who said it this way, carried out his singing activities as a member of JYJ and at the same time, debuting as an actor through 2010’s “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”. The people who met him as a singer and those who met him as an actor, although the way how they met him varied, all the people who met Park Yuchun would get attracted by his charm no matter which way was it. That is, once you know, you’ll be caught into that particular presence.
After showing a steady and exquisite acting in “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, Park Yuchun filmed a romantic drama “Miss Ripley”.
Through the touching fictional romantic drama “Rooftop Prince”, he was able to establish his position as a top-notch actor. And in “Missing You”, his sorrowful and at the same time, lovable acting moved the hearts of the female viewers.
In the suspense drama “3Days”, having to face big time actors, his acting was still comparable to them. And as an actor, Park Yuchun’s acting continues to grow.
Also, Yuchun’s new drama, “The Girl Who Sees Smells”, is currently being aired for the first time through KNTV. Although the main protagonist is a bit mysterious, a guy with no feelings who doesn’t feel pain, but Yuchun was able to interpret this character naturally. Next, we’ll show you the “Yuchun world” that is impossible for people to dislike and has endless charm.

—–With older women, I want to hug her tight —–
—–From start till the end of the interview was very pleasant? —–
Yuchun just used Japanese in answering throughout the interview. “ It can’t be, it can’t be, it’s already the maximum limit!” Although he said it this way, but nonetheless, he was quick-witted and fluent in answering. From start till the end, Yuchun answered our questions in excellent spirits.
Holding his chin while thinking about the questions, laughing at his answers, his varied facial expressions, just like the cuteness of a child or a small pet.

During the photoshoot, Yuchun was also full of cuteness with the male photographer.
Requesting the photographer, “more sexy!” Yuchun put his hand on the neckline of his thin knitted shirt, pulled it down, then exposing his shoulder! He’s really very dedicated! But the photographer dismissed him saying, “Uh, it’s a little too much…..” The image of Yuchun sticking out his tongue after he was turned down by the photographer was also very cute!

Because he cannot feel pain, so it doesn’t matter even if he’s being kicked and hit; because he cannot feel heat, that’s why he can drink a very hot coffee in just one shot! Because he doesn’t have a sense of taste and doesn’t have the feeling of fullness, that’s why he can finish up several big bowls of dishes. A man with “paresthesia” is like this.
In the latest TV drama “The Girl Who Sees Smells”, Choi Mugak, the role that Park Yuchun acted on, is both fearless and insensitive (it’s just that he doesn’t have feelings?). His character is serious, plus, being a policeman, is a manly role that women would love.
“Probably, among the roles that I have played until now, Mugak is the one that is closest to my usual self. But it’s not because of this that made it easier for me to act. Can I act it out well or not? The uneasiness I felt before the shooting started was more than the anticipation. Most of his feelings were numb, that’s why he also doesn’t have a “heart that feels”. When he eats something good, he won’t have the feeling of happiness. The reason why Mugak’s character became like this, I feel it’s because after the death of his beloved sister, he created it out just to overcome his grief. That’s why he’s even more pitiful. Having to portray all these was very hard, that’s why I was very worried. It’s not just with no feelings, I also have to show Mugak’s grief.”
So that’s the case! That’s why, the Mugak who remains expressionless no matter what, caused people to laugh. At the same time, there’s also something like sadness and also something like anger, which made it impossible for people to understand the strange temperament. It makes people who saw it, unable to get over it.
“Because after losing his beloved sister, Mugak’s inner (emotional) wound continued to become his conscious existence.”
It turns out, there’s also Yuchun’s “carefully calculated” acting hidden here! Indeed, this is the role that only he can manage!
“But it’s really very difficult to act it out! The moment when one feels pain, not only the expression, but also the body will have a reaction too. But to act it out and pretend as if it’s not painful is really hard compared to what I thought. I have thought about it a lot on how to let viewers feel that this kind of unusual character who doesn’t feel pain was natural.”
Then, are you sensitive to pain?
“I’m scared of pain! But everyone doesn’t like pain, right? (laugh) Also, Mugak has a huge appetite. That’s why when we have to shoot a scene where I have to eat a lot, I really want to die. (laugh) I feel that food has a certain time frame to be considered delicious. But while shooting, I don’t worry about that. But I came to know about it again this time while filming. Food has to be eaten at a certain period when they are still delicious. And that is courtesy. ”
Mugak is often misunderstood because he cannot feel anything. In real life, did you experience being misunderstood?
“A lot. For example, 10 years ago during my debut, originally, my personality was relatively quiet, more like an introvert. That’s why the staffs at the TV station often misunderstood me. Because I don’t talk much, so they thought I’m arrogant because I gained a little popularity. So after that, I consciously changed my personality to become more cheerful and more talkative. But I also became someone who would drink a lot when I start to drink. (laugh)”

Yuchun according to his co-stars
Year 2010 “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”
Kim Kap Soo sunbaenim (played the role as his father): “ Before, I’ve known Park Yuchun as a singer only, but his acting is very natural, unlike the other juniors. Yuchun’s character is very good, very honest and respectful.”
Year 2011 “Miss Ripley”
Lee Da Hae: “Park Yuchun is baby-faced, but he also has a very mature side. He would even respond to my jokes seriously and there were times when he would even say some lame/corny jokes. A very interesting person. At the filming site, he’s like a mascot.”
Year 2012 “Rooftop Prince”
Director Shin Yoon Sub: “Park Yuchun has the necessary talent and ability of an actor. Very sensible and his expressions are full of charm… and even as a man, I’d also get attracted. That’s why now I understand the reason why he is loved by women.”
Jung Suk Won: “The feeling of Park Yuchun’s acting is very good. During filming, we had a lot of on-the-spot acting. The comedy scenes became lively and fun because of Yuchun. Also, while shooting, an unfortunate thing happened but he totally didn’t let anyone feel these things, making me feel that Yuchun has a strong sense of responsibility.”
Year 2012 “Missing You”
Song Ok Sook: “Park Yuchun can show his emotions deeply and can absorb the things taught to him immediately. I admire and appreciate his enthusiasm and his talent. He’s very honest. His effort in attempting to break the idol singer attitude is very good.”
Year 2014 “3Days”
Director Shin Kyung Soo: “Park Yuchun’s ability to do action drama is very high. He can instantly understand the situation of the character and his acting has an explosive force. His performance in terms of the character’s emotional part is also very good. When the TV drama started, his acting on the part where Tae Kyung suppressed his feelings of anxiety and there were tears in his eyes was very good.”
Year 2014 “Haemoo”
Kim Yun Seok praised him saying: “Yuchun is like a sponge, his ability to adapt is very outstanding. I don’t quite understand his past, but he’s definitely not a weak guy who grew up sheltered. That’s why his ability to absorb is very good. His attitude in acting is excellent. In the future, as an actor, he should be able to go all the way and at the same time, grow more.
Kim Sang Ho: “Yuchun already knows how not to overdo and exert too much when acting. Normally, it would take 10 years for other people to grasp this idea. He’s really an intelligent actor.”

—Do you have confidence in your ability to be funny? —
Indeed, during the interview when he just started to debut, Yuchun gave people the impression that he’s more introvert and doesn’t talk much. But right now, during the interview, Yuchun keeps on laughing out loud. He’s cheerful and at the same time, playful. This kind of cheerful disposition, perhaps, has a connection with Mugak.
“Yes. Before his sister became a victim, Mugak was a very cheerful man. After he met Chorim who has an unusual ability, his bright personality was naturally restored. There’s a reflection of my everyday life in my acting during that part.”
Actually, one of Mugak’s charms is his talent to be funny. He reluctantly became Chorim’s comedy partner, who was determined to become a stand-up comedian. Obviously, he’s a man with no feelings, but he’s gifted with such talent. He showed his comedy skills that made people laugh so hard.
“It’s my first time to play this kind of comedy role. It was really very difficult when I was acting on the comedy dialogue. Once again, it made me feel that comedians are respectable. The scenes of the comedy dialogue were mostly done on the spot. And because the director said, “Yuchun, just act as you like!” That’s why it was really quite stressful.”
Mugak was forced by Chorim to put on the wig, and then, seriously posing as a countryside person who just came to Seoul. That part of the drama really made people laugh! Producing an unusual sound by saying “churr”, and then, making a surprised facial expression… it was a skill that would really make the comedians feel that they are not as good!
“Although I’m not like Mugak in terms of how he said the comedy dialogues, but I can make funny jokes. I feel that I have the ability to be funny. I have confidence that I can make people laugh!”
I believe everyone have heard Yuchun said these words during the FM. The director of this drama, Baek Soo Chan who continuously praised Yuchun’s acting, also confirmed it by saying, “Yuchun would usually make some lame/corny jokes to liven up the atmosphere of the filming set.” (laugh)
The actors who have worked with him before have also said the same words. How does Yuchun think about this?
“I don’t know! (laugh) Jokes should be lame/corny… that kind of subtle feeling, to be considered fun!”
No matter how you say it, Mugaks’s comedy dialogue became a hot topic in Korea. You definitely can’t miss this.

The romantic part of this drama is also a must-see. Mugak intentionally treated Chorim coldly and ordered her around. He’s full of arrogance, yet a lot of his lines and actions moved the hearts of a lot of women. While filming, which part of the drama made Yuchun’s heart pound?
“The scene where Mugak used perfume to propose. Because Chorim can see smell, so he used perfume to express his intention. Compared to the method of expressing it, I feel the time while waiting for the answer will make ones heart pound. Although I have the read the script, so I already knew the answer. But still, it made my heart pound. Others are also like this. For example, during concerts and fan meetings, the time while waiting at the backstage before the start of the show, that kind of feeling when your heart beats, I like it very much.”
Then, how does Yuchun feel about a woman like Chorim who likes to be funny, making Mugak as her comedy partner, has the unique ability to see smells, and can also be an assistant during investigations. A very unique girl, right?
“Chorim is always very cheerful even if Mugak doesn’t do anything special. Gaining strength from that kind of woman. She’s also very amusing even if I don’t do anything. That’s why when we were together, it was very comfortable. I feel it’s very nice. It’s still nice for women to feel natural. If a woman likes to be funny, we should be able get along well because I also have the ability to be funny. (laugh)”
How about age? Up until now, the female leads were either of the same age or older than you. Chorim’s age was set to be of the same age as Mugak’s sister. Will your way of getting along with younger women be different?
“It’s my first time to work with a younger actor because the characters were set up like this. Also, Shin Se Kyung is younger than me. That’s why there will be a difference compared to the older characters. The kind of feeling of wanting to protect her and hug her tight.”
You don’t have this kind of feelings for older women?
“No, I also have feelings for older women. Really, I absolutely have feelings but it’s a little different. How do I say this…very affectionate. With older women, I like to hug tight. With younger women, I feel like touching her head because I’m fond of her. Older women’s cuteness is different.”
In the drama, there was this line that move people’s heart…. “How should I call you? My lover, my woman, girlfriend, you choose one!” How does Yuchun think about this line?
“Do women still think this kind of proposal is good? I personally still prefer to be straightforward. The words are shorter. For example, “Then, just like that”. Is it not already understood?”
“Then, let’s be a couple”, you mean this one?
“Yes, I won’t say that kind of words.”

But with regards to this kind of straightforward proposal, the hearts of a lot of women will be moved!
“It’s okay to call me anything. But I still like being called “Oppa”! In Japan, how do couples call each other? “
“Yuchun-san? It’s not bad too! There’s a feeling of respect. It’s very nice!”
The topic returned back to the drama. Interpreting Mukgak, a man with no feelings, Yuchun’s acting gave people the feeling of exquisiteness. Do you feel that with regards to acting, there’s a particular sense that is very important?
“Ah, with regards to acting, there are a lot of senses that are needed. There’s no way to choose one. Is it the sense where I’m most sensitive? No, it’s not hearing. Actually, my sense of hearing is not very good because before, I often listen to loud music during concerts. That’s why it’s not very good. The sense that I’m sensitive at would be my sense of smell. I hate the fishy smell. I really don’t like that smell. The smell that I like is the scent of something light. It’s not perfume but the smell of shower gels. I like the kind that is not very strong, just a light smell.”
Do you wish to have Chorim’s special ability?
“I don’t want to.”
Yuchun seems to deny it immediately.
“I don’t want to see a lot of things. Being able to hear a lot of things will also be hard. It’s enough for me to have normal senses.”
Then lastly, let’s talk about some serious topic.
“Hey! I’ve been answering the questions seriously!”
Yuchun, of course we understand! (laugh) From Sungkyunkwan Scandal, it’s already been over 5 years since you started performing. Do you have you have any thoughts on acting?
“Honestly, I feel that my acting still lacks a lot. Based on the Japanese age, I’m already 29 years old. I feel that acting officially starts after the age of 30. Specifically, after filming the TV drama and the movie “Lucid Dream”, I feel that if I don’t seriously think about acting, it would be very dangerous. Up until now, there were a lot of parts where I would slack off while performing. But in the future, I have to seriously think about it. Acting is profound. You can’t just use a simple mindset and act. Also, acting with the thought of just satisfying oneself will also not work. That’s why I feel I still have a lot to learn.”
Lastly, do you have any words to your fans?
“This time when coming to Japan, at the airport and also at the places I went, there were a lot of fans waiting for me. I’m really happy. Because of my 2 –year military service, we cannot see each other. Thus, it will more difficult for all of us. Please be sure to take care of yourselves, I will work hard and I’ll look forward to the day when we can meet again and do activities in Japan.”
