Media should stop selling other people's private lives - Park Yuchun mentioned

From the panel discussion, "the reports of celebrity related crimes, what are the problems of this matter"

Yoon Tae Jin, Prof. of Yonseo Univ. (Graduate School of Communication and Arts) pointed out that "the reason why the reports related to celebrities being accused of sexual assaults have been produced with outrageously large quantity is for 'selling no. of clicks' by the press" and "the media should stop disguising as 'the-rights-to know of the national citizens while fulfilling the vulgar curiosity of the public on other people's sex lives."

In this panel discussion, the criticisms came out on the usual pratices of the media that they are careful of revealing the names or faces for 'public figures' while having no hesitation for revealing the names of 'open figures' such as entertainers or sports stars.

[NEWS] Park Yuchun’s First Accuser, Indicted on False Accusation & Attempted Extortion Charges While Being Imprisoned

[OBS PLUS = Shim Sol Ah reporter]

A, the first person who filed report against Singer-Actor Park Yuchun, was indicted on false accusation and attempted extortion charges while being imprisoned.

Investigative Division on Women and Children at Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jung Hyun) disclosed that they had indicted A, while having been imprisoned, on the charge of falsely filing the report that she had been sexually assaulted by Park Yuchun (false accusation and attempted extortion) on the 29th.

Moreover, B from a mob organization and A’s boyfriend who had attempted to extort money from Park Yuchun by using this case were also brought on trial for the attempted extortion charge. (T/N: In other words, the mob B and A’s boyfriend were also indicted on attempted extortion charges.)

According to the Prosecutors’ Office, on the June 4th, after A’s boyfriend heard from A that “she had been sexually assaulted by Park Yuchun,” he conspired to extort settlement money by using this case. He, together with B who was introduced to him by an acquaintance, met Park Yuchun’s manager the next day and demanded money.

It was investigated that they met Park Yuchun’s side everyday until the 8th of the same month and blackmailed by threatening that “they would reveal the case to the media” and filed the report against Park Yuchun on the sexual assault allegation on the 10th.

The Prosecutors’ Office is also investigating on false accusation charges for other three women besides A who filed report against Park Yuchun on sexual assault allegations.

The first female, who accused singer-and-actor Park Yuchun of sexual assault, has been handed over for trial on charges of false allegations and attempted blackmail.
It was disclosed that Seoul Central District Public Prosecutors’ Office indicted the 24-year-old Ms. Lee to detention under the suspicions of false accusations, when she said she suffered sexual assault after having sexual relations with Mr. Park.
Also, 33-year-old Mr. Hwang –a former gang member who had extorted money and other valuables from Mr. Park as a justification in this case– and Ms. Lee’s boyfriend 32-year-old Mr. Lee will be handed over for trial on charges of attempted blackmail, too.
It’s reported upon investigating that the boyfriend Mr. Lee had conspired to receive money from Park Yuchun last June 4th with the pretext for settlement money after hearing Ms. Lee’s words about suffering sexual assault.
It’s reported upon investigating that there were threats made; when they met with Mr. Park’s manager the following day [June 5th] together with gang-affiliated Mr. Hwang who was introduced by an acquaintance, when meeting with Mr. Park’s side every day till the 8th of the same month [June] after demanding money, and in having said they will let the media-presses know of the matter.
However things turned out contrary to what they intended and Ms. Lee is under suspicions of making false allegations with her accusations of sexual assault against Mr. Park.
The prosecution, like the police, are making a decision on Ms. Lee just having sexual relations and trying to reach an agreement with Mr. Park; and not having suffered sexual assault.
The prosecution are investigating toward whether the other 3 females, who had accused Mr. Park of sexual assault, made false allegations; following Ms. Lee.

REVIEW - Thursdays at the Theatre: "Sea Fog" mixes human trafficking, murky morality

REVIEW

‘Sea Fog” skillfully mixes many ingredients of a successful thriller — the moral darkness of film noir, the obsessed-captain sea stories, the contemporary edginess of human-smuggling ordeals. It even throws in a dash of global politics, in this case the Asian economic crisis stemming from problems with the International Monetary Fund.
More than anything, though, this recent Korean blockbuster is a study in the vastly different ways that humans respond to extreme pressure. And, of course, it’s also a tender love story.
Backed into a corner
The plot, based loosely on a 2001 incident involving the transport of illegal immigrants, begins, like many thrillers, on a deceptively quiet note. A rundown Korean trawler, its motley crew having failed to catch anything in overfished waters, limps back to port early in need of repairs.
The boat’s mortgage holder shows up at the dock, threatening to cash it in on a government program aimed at getting obsolete vessels off the water. It’s worth more as scrap, he says, that it is in operation.
What will the crew do, though? Fishing is all they know. As it is, failure is taking a heavy toll on their personal lives. They can’t afford girlfriends. They have to hock their belongings and pretend to their families that they’re getting paid.
In the case of the captain, Kang Cheol-joo, his wife has contempt for his skills as a provider. On this day, coming home early, he catches her in a cozy situation with a Chinese-Korean laborer. Not that anything would surprise him about her. Maybe the situation would improve for him if he could buy his boat back, but the bank won’t front him the money. It seems the missus has already taken out an equity loan on the restaurant she runs.
Bad to worse
Fresh out of options, Cheol-joo decides to accept the offer of a sleazy business owner he knows and run one load of Chinese-Korean illegals into the country. Shouldn’t be too complicated – a quick trip at night when no one is watching.
One thing after another goes wrong, though. To start with, there are far more immigrants than expected. The seas are rough as the transfer is made from the other boat; one refugee falls into the water and has to be rescued.
It turns out there are a couple of women among them, and every seaman knows that’s bad luck. A couple of others have smart mouths and start getting their fellow travelers worked up. In dealing with the issue, the captain shows the first signs of emotional instability.
Worse yet, a heavy fog prevents the return to shore, and in the daylight they get a visit from the Coast Guard. The real trouble starts when the crew has to find creative ways to hide all the extra people…
Award winner
For a non-Hollywood movie, “Sea Fog” had a pretty healthy budget to work with. It really is a tour de force of cinematic technique, with a lot of visual variety and movement, considering that almost all of it is shot aboard a modest-sized fishing boat.
The movie also was South Korea’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards a couple of years back. It features one veteran star (Kim Yun-seok of “The Yellow Sea”), a handful of established character actors and even a Korean pop star(Park Yoochun) in his acting debut.
At the helm is producer Bong Joon Ho, who directed the international creature sensation “The Host,” and who co-wrote “Sea Fog” with first-time director Shim Sung-bo. Predictably, they are able to pull out a successful film that’s a good deal darker, visually and psychologically, than Hollywood would dare attempt in a project that has large investments at stake.
If you go: “Sea Fog” will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St. The screening, part of the Arizona Western College Foundation’s “Thursdays at the Theatre,” includes an independent short film and a hosted discussion. Language is Korean, with English subtitles; run time of the feature is 111 minutes. Admission is $5, $2.50 for AWC students and staff.

Details about Sea Fog's screening at the Historic Yuma on August 25.

Thursdays at the Theatre, a film series by AWC Foundation, will be showing, "Sea Fog", "crisp, starkly beautiful compositions, contrasting claustrophobic human activity with the ocean's vastness." – Maggie Lee, Variety

‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ Webtoon, ‘Isn’t it great’ to come out from the monitor

2016. 08. 13. [MBN STAR Yu Ji Hoon reporter]

Word balloons become the dialogues of the characters and their movements that only exist in our imagination become reality. The successful dramatization • cinematization of ‘Princess Hours’ ‘Full House’ ‘Tazza’ ‘Le Grand Chef’ and others has confirmed how developed the Korean cartoons are and how attractively they could approach the majority of public as well as the cartoon readers.

The cartoon which has moved to web and mobile market has become the darling of the public by the name of ‘webtoon.’ Now, webtoon is rather more familiar to us than cartoon. And, several popular webtoons have been actualized and met the viewers like cartoons drawn in paper in the past. During the first half of this year, three works were dramatized and loved by the viewers. The webtoons and the dramas has become inseparable now.

☆ Review on the previous dramas based on Webtoon. Translated only related to ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’

‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ broadcasted at SBS from April 2015 is a drama based on the original work by Webtoon artist Manchie. This drama presents the story of Choi Mu Gak (played by Park Yuchun), the man with no sense who had lost his sister from a barcode murder case three years ago and Oh Cho Rim (played by Shin Se Kyung) possessing hyper sense who had miraculously survived the same accident, but lost all the past memories.

‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ is a drama which maximize the fantasy-like situation to perceive smells by eyes. The main storyline of this drama was that Shin Se Kyung was solving the cases with Park Yuchun. The premise ‘to see smells’ is the point to bring about both of the concerns and expectations. But, there was no repulsion against it. The computer graphics was spontaneously melted into this drama of a overall warm tone and the great performances by the actors made it shine more.

‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ had kept the rank no.1 among the Wed/Thurs dramas throughout its time of airing. This drama has been appreciated as the one that made a landmark in the romantic comedy based on the original works of Webtoon. The sweet romance between Park Yuchun – Shin Se Kyung and Namgoong Min’s acting as a psychopathic serial killer would bring a smile to the viewers who had loved this drama.

[EDITORIAL] 160811 There should be severe punishment for false allegations in accusation cases of sexual violence

On the past [August] 8th, Seoul Gangnam Police Station disclosed that they will be forwarding their case to prosecutors upon conceding the charge of false allegations toward the female who accused singer-and-actor Park Yuchun of sexual assault. There has been quite a stir with a series of sex scandals with famous celebrities including Park Yuchun, Lee Jin-wook, others recently. These celebrities have received the public’s loves and should set an example more than ordinary people even do in their private lives, as public figures; but the act of tarnishing their reputation to the public’s trust due to inaccuracies is reprehensible. However seeing this case, we feel it has reached to the brink where there also is a need to prevent them from being dishonestly accused under false pretenses in regards to a sexual violence case.
Sexual violence crimes are serious crimes that bring great damages, to the extent of killing a victim’s character, as a crime that infringes upon the victim’s sexual self-determination[/independence] and right for the pursuit of happiness. It tries to raise the alarm in regards to such sexual violence cases, to enact the ‘Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Violence Crimes’ (shortened hereby to the Act on Special Cases of Sexual Violence) from April 15, 2010 that’s supposed to prevent this, and to do an aggravated punishment in regards to sexual violence crimes. But when there happens to be a victim who becomes falsely accused due to the act of abusing the legislative intent of this Act on Special Cases of Sexual Violence, the side effects must be rectified no matter what, too.
With the police’s investigation results in the scenario of Park Yuchun’s case, some of the accusers have been indicted under the suspicions of false allegations; and also in the scenario of Lee Jin-wook’s case, the police are in the middle of investigating whether false charges were made or not after he was cleared of suspicions. In the scenario of sexual violence crimes, the nature is considerably dependent upon the victim’s statement, and not only that, but if it was in a photo of the injured region or a diagnosis of bodily harm, etc.; an investigation would be conducted once charges were acknowledged. Although a suspect in this process has the difficulty of having to try to prove his own innocence when the questioning with the victim was not done properly, because of the protection provision for a victim of the Act on Special Cases of Sexual Violence; in the scenario where accusations where made after some time, it is also a virtually impossible scenario where there is proof from back then. In addition, there are a lot of scenarios where the mere fact that one was involved in a sexual violence crime concludes with a hurried agreement, before making accusations or after making accusations; even when it is different from the truth, on account of one being mortally wounded in image.
The famous celebrities in the scenarios of these cases had appointed lawyers to fully prove their innocence. However there may be the scenario where an ordinary person does not have a defense properly to facing charges and get punished under false allegations, based on their situation to be unable to appoint a lawyer. The necessity to protect victims who have been in sexual violence crimes and severely punish criminals definitely exists. However it is also necessary we should make sure it does not happen to a victim who’s falsely accused by another due to this. Therefore, investigative agencies have to indict based on actively investigating in an accusation case of sexual violence crime and toward whether the accuser’s allegations are false or not, no matter what; and in the courts, as severe punishment to this, the Act on Special Cases of Sexual Violence will display its functions properly then.
~~~
The Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Violence Crimes is a Special Criminal Act of the Republic of Korea which aims to contribute to a strong social order in ensuring a victim’s life and personal safety in a sexual violence crime by stipulating it as a special case concerning the penalties and the process of a sexual violence crime.
[INFO] Second Accuser (B) found GUILTY of FALSE ACCUSATION by the Police
The police has intended to apply false charge to second woman who filed report against Park Yuchun with the point that the contents of her written complaint was false.
(Source: SBS News July 11, 2016)
The suspicion of making a complaint based on the falsehood by the second woman who filed report against Park Yuchun was acknowledged so that she was sent to the prosecution office with the opinion of being indicted for false accusation last month.
(Source: Yonhap News Aug 8, 2016)
☆ FYI: In Korea, the police gives its opinions on the suspects such as not guilty or being indicted (a.k.a. found guilty by the police) to the prosecution office. The prosecution office then has the sole right to indict or finalize the investigation. So, every criminal case is sent to the prosecution office.
#박유천_무혐의
P/S: We can see that the police found B guilty of false accusation quite early. We can now confirm that the police has sent B to prosecution office and the prosecutors are working on her case (but still the final indict depends on the prosecution office).
